The Spinners

It should come to no surprise that The Spinners have always made music that is timeless and utterly in tune with the times, a classic group sound and approach which never loses its universal appeal.
More remarkable is the fact that The Spinners, in Y2K, are even more popular. They are one of the few groups who can boast of four lead singers: John Edwards, Bobbie Smith, Henry Farnbrough and Pervis Jackson, with Billy Henderson making up the quintet.
They have acquired twelve gold records with their hits climbing to the top of both pop and R&B charts. In 1972,The Spinners came to Atlantic Records, teamed with producer Tom Bell and the hits really started rolling. A partial list of their Atlantic single successes includes such classic tunes as “Mighty Love” “Then Came You” “Rubberband Man” “I’ll Be Around” “One Of A Kind (Love Affair)” “Games People Play” and “Could It Be”. In 1977 John Edwards (who had been filling in for an ill group member on the road since 1973) became a full-fledged Spinner. Following several years of on-the-job training for new recruit Edwards, 1980 saw The Spinners return to the top in typically grand style when the album “The Dancin’ and Lovin'” was released. With the release of the “Can’t Shake This Feeling” album, the quintet entered a brand new phase of their remarkable career. They joined with the award-winning producing/writing/playing team of James Mtume and Reggie Lucas. They have been nominated six times for a Grammy and entertained twice on the Grammy television show. The Spinners are one of the most sought-after groups for appearances in Atlantic City, Las Vegas, private events for top organizations, theatres and concerts.
The Spinners received the Black Gold Award on a Dick Clark TV special for their many achievements in the record industry. Their voices were on the soundtrack of the motion pictures “Twins” and “Spaceballs”. They were with Dionne Warwick on Arista Records’ “I Don’t Need Another Love”.
When they are not in the studio, The Spinners maintain a busy calendar of concert appearances and television dates. They have been giving special meaning to the word “Class” with hard work, dedication, music talent and quality, which has kept them at the top year after year. There is no sign that they are about to let up.
