Based in NYC, puckett is a four-piece rock act.

HOW IT BEGAN: Formed in 1997 by Matthew Puckett (guitar and Vocals) and Tom Zovich (bass guitar and vocals). Puckett was an acoustic duo playing coffeehouses in New York’s East Village.

WHY IT HAPPENED: After a frustrating experience making a film called Spanking the Monkey (New Line Cinema), Matthew gave up a promising career as an actor to do what he loved most. The movie, directed by David O. Russell (Three Kings, Flirting with Disaster), won best film at the Sundance Film Festival. The fact that Matthew left his guitar in NYC during filming gave rise to depression. So he made that big career move.

WHO CHANGED THE SCENE: Enter Damon Alexander, a drummer from Austin, Texas, who joined Matthew and Tom forming the beginning of what is now Puckett. Damon left behind some great bands and great friends. When it came time to add another guitar player, Damon had a very prescient suggestion.

WHO MADE THE SCENE: When Damon made the phone call to his friend from Austin, Dustin Tanner was busy playing guitar with some of Austin’s most popular acts such as George Devore. After hearing a very, very rough rehearsal tape, Dustin thought Puckett was terrible, but he wanted to see New York City, so what the hell

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Let’s produce this shit ourselves One night in Matthew’s home studio, the light bulb went on and the decision to go D.I.Y. was made. The recordings for ’23.’ began immediately. Titled after a lucky number, an influence, and the number of chromosomes in the human body, Puckett ’23.’ will serve to surprise and confuse the expectations of those who’ve been quick to place labels on the current singer-songwriter driven bands. The new CD is a perfect companion to their powerful live show. Puckett ’23.’ is a mishmash of different sounds and styles in the spirit of bands such as Cheap Trick and Whiskeytown.

WHERE THEY ARE GOING: Puckett is featured on the motion picture soundtrack “Never Again” (USA FILMS), the newest comedy from Writer/Director Eric Schaeffer (My Life’s in Turnaround, If Lucy Fell). Eric’s movie was a huge success at SXSW 2001.
Puckett’s new CD “23” is currently spinning over 100 radio stations on the east coast.
