It really makes up for getting older when you can see what music was like then and the way it is now. My 3 children are in their 20’s and even though they have their own music tastes, they can appreciate what mom and dad had and they share our love of music and as much as we love the music we grew up, fell in love and married with, we were more than happy to share it with them. I have to let you know that my oldest son’s all-favorite singer is still “The Late Great HAROLD MELVIN”. My husband and I Feel we’ve done a great job with our children.

You are one of my favorite groups of the 70 and 80’s. I am proud have been a listener and fan of your groups. THAT IS WHEN MUSIC WAS MUSIC.

My husband the late Freddie Lee Davis admired your group also. He was an entertainer also.

I was browsing to see if the Bluenotes were coming to town and saw that Donnell’s bio said he was with Harold Melvin since 1990. I know for a fact that Gilbert Saunders was lead singer at that time. I will never forget his performance and couldn’t wait to see the Bluenotes again.

First, I’d like to say that I’ve enjoyed the music of Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes since I was growing up in the 1970’s. You guys were awesome then and you still are today! The loss of Harold saddened me but his music lives on. May God continue to bless and keep his family. Teddy, you are da’ bomb! Your music, life and experiences have been a true source of inspiration to me and to so many others. Keep up the great work ! I would like to ask about Bernard Williams, one of the original founding members of The Bluenotes. Is he still living? Does he still sing with the group? Please send me fan club information if possible. Thanks so much and may God be with you all!

In the early 70’s you played at The Newport Hotel Hollywood,Florida. I asked your manager if you all needed a Cuban Conga player and he told me yes. He said bring your congas and timbales tomorrow (Sunday night) so you can jam with the band. I thought it was just me and The Blue Notes but Well when I got there Sunday night the place was packed and one of the singers seated at a table at the entrance sorrounded by women said to me,”bring your stuff we go on stage next” so I said are you sure, you dont know if I can play congas or timbales and he answered with a big smile ” You are Cuban I know you can play those things….So a young man that was there set my instruments up front to the left of the singers and sure enough we got on stage and opened up with “Bad Luck”. While playing congas one of the singers came dancing towards me and He played the timbales while I played congas after a while he got close to me and said ” give me some timbales” and I got into it and jamed the night away.. Hey guys I had a great time and I know you did too because not only did you invited me to stay for the second set, but we sat at the lobby of the hotel and you told me to go with the band that your next stop was Philadelphia your home town. If any of you remember please contact me through my web site www.yovanymusic.com. and if you are ever in the Florida area and need some cuban backup let me know. Best of luck your Cuban Conga/timbales friend. Yovany PS: saw you on PBS TV and it brought back great memories! Hope to hear from you all soon 🙂

I was just reading some of the comments on this page and wanted to ask if anyone remembers the Bluenote who took Lloyd Parks’ place when he left The Bluenotes in the seventies. His name was Jerry Cummings a very handsome fellow. He has become Evangelist Jeremiah Cummings. Boy, can he teach. He says that he sings on the highest level now by preaching and proclaiming the word of God, and believe me he definitely has the anointing! If any of you ever hear of him coming to your town you should go an hear him. You will be suprised just as I was, and he looks blessed too.

i really really like harold melvins song called “i miss you” , and every single time i listen to it , i wonder to my self “i wonder if she ever goes back to him?” because the way he begs her for her forgivness and tells her how much he still loves her after all these years even though she has found sombody new. So i think to my self that if sombody that i once loved with all my heart ever begged me to come back the way he does on the song, i would surley go back.So my question for all of you is: Was the song written spaciffically for a certain person? and if so did she ever go back to him. this is a question that runs threw my head each time i hear ” i miss you”. so it would reall help alot if any body knows the answer. plaes reply back to me by emailing me. i probably wont have another chance to visit htis site. thank you.

I remember one time when we were in the Philippine Islands (Manila) in the early 80s, I had a woman in my room from the Philippines after one of our shows and the whole group was in their rooms, too and Harold’s room was next to mine and I had been chasing the woman around my room, tickling her, when she screamed real loud (playfully) and Harold said to me the next morning at breakfast—-LOS, I thought we were all going to jail when I heard that pretty lady screaming and I panicked, Carlos (smile) but I realized later after all her laughter that everything was cool. Man you’re something else, Losy. My memory of the some of the good times with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes on tour. I remember watching Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes on Soul Train when I was a kid. I thought that good ole’ Teddy Pendegrass was Harold Melvin (silly me!). But anyway, it was cool seeing Ted singing his ass off to “The Love I Lost” and “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”. It’s a drag that Harold’s no longer with us, but he’s right up there with all the greats like Marvin and Jackie…

I remember all the good times traveling with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes all over the world back in the good old days. It was me, Norman Smith, Teddy’s former bass player, Ron Jennings, Mckinnley Horton, Winston Gaye, Herny McMillan, Elliot Levin, Brian Williams, Rufus Thorne, ( my home boy from West Philly) Blacky, Gilbert Saunders, Bill, Hameen Melvin and George, Pretty man. I Really miss those times and all the people we met (including other recording artists). The performances we gave to world wide audiences. Melvin will surely be missed by Philly and beyond for his musical prowness. The one song that will always stand out in my mind is “Time Be My Lover” by Harold among others—–love Carlos Devaughn, West Philly, PA 19131. Harold Melvin’s former bandleader drummer.

I was 15 years old back in 1975 and living in Los Angeles, CA with my older sister when I first heard of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. It was one song that my sister use to play over and over again, and that was TO BE TRUE. I have not heard that song every again, and I have been trying so very hard to find it. I want to hear that song again, and just close my eyes and see my sister dancing around the house singing that song. I will not give up my search until I find that song. Harold Melvin, my sister and I will miss you dearly. May you rest in peace.

Teddy, tried to get an email to you at the Fox Detroit. Hope you received it. I met you after your concert in Seattle back in 81 or 82 right before your accident. You made such an impression on my life you will never know. Hope you have forgiven me for getting you lost walking in downtown Seattle looking for “Soul Food”.ha You are still the greatest. You inspired me so much. Thinking about you made me strong when I had to deal with breast cancer. I had a radical mastectomy but I beat the cancer….God bless you….. Kat

MANY HAVE COMMENTED ON YOUR PERFORMANCES. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT THE LYRICS TO “WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS” RANGS SO TRUE IN MY LIFE AND MY HEART THAT JUST HEARING THE SONG WOULD ENVOKE TEARS. HOWEVER, AFTER WATCHING TEDDY’S REMARKABLE RECOVERY AND DESIRE FOR LIFE, THOSE SAME LYRICS NOW BRING JOY BECAUSE I ( LIKE TEDDY AN ARIES- APRIL 4) REFUSED TO QUIT. I DON’T SING, NO VOICE AT ALL. BUT, MR. PENDEGRASS, YOUR LIFE HAS TRULY BEEN AN INSPIRATION AND I SAY WITH YOU. “LIFE IS A SONG WORTH SINGING” PRAISE THE LORD!!!! MJ

To Sir Teddy Pendergrass. This past October 12 and 13, I attended your concert at Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia, your first concert in your hometown since 1980. You sounded as great as ever singing your greatest hits. You also looked great and healthy. Congratulation on making the day of October 12 Teddy Pendergrass day in Philadelphia. I am looking forward to read your book “Truly Blessed” soon. I hope to see you again and again. I assured that everyone in the concert was pleased and proud to hear you again. It was memorable to sing along with you. Take care and god bless.

Your Bluenotes site is very nice and interesting but there is a major mistake on it. I am founder of the Doo Wop Hall of Fame ( doowophalloffame.org )and the omission on your site is that the Bluenotes started as a doo wop group in the fifties. Yes, with Harlod Melvin.

Hello! I am a person who recently discovered your music. I think, as many people, that your music is excelent. But my favorite one is “Somewhere I belong”, for wich I can’t find words to express the internal feelings it induced in me, mainly faith during a critical time. I found it very inspirational even though I do not understand all what there is said, mainly because I have not access to the lyrics, now I am trying to find them on internet. Congratulations about your music! I hope to find some records here at Mixico -very difficult!-, but nothing is impossible. My best wishes from Chihuahua and Thanks!. [sorry about my bad english :)]

My parent’s 50th anniversary is in February. Around their 25th or so, my father arranged for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes to sing “Stay In My Corner” to my mother while she turned inside out. I was doing a little research to find out how hard it would be to arrange something of this sort. It touched my heart to find out of his death, May God be with him & his family always. : Subject: Warning – Do Not Open Blue Envelopes in your U.S. Mail ONCE YOU HAVE READ THIS PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOU KNOW. This is from Schwab corporate headquarters — so it’s no joke. Very scary. Be careful Just when you thought you were safe, now we have the following to deal with…please read, it definitely is a serious threat to our lives and health. This is an alert about a virus in the original sense of the word…one that affects your body, not your hard drive. There have been 23 confirmed cases of people attacked by the Klingerman Virus, a virus that arrives in your real mailbox, not your e-mail in box. Someone has been mailing large blue envelopes, seemingly at random, to people inside the US. On the front of the envelope in bold black letters is printed, “A gift for you from the Klingerman Foundation.” When the envelopes are opened, there is a small sponge sealed in plastic. This sponge carries what has come to be known as the Klingerman Virus, as public health officials state this is a strain of virus they have not previously encountered. When asked for comment, Florida police Sergeant Stetson said, “We are working with the CDC and the USPS, but have so far been unable to track down the origins of these letters. The return addresses have all been different, and we are certain a remailing service is being used, making our jobs that much more difficult.” Those who have come in contact with the klingerman Virus have been hospitalized with severe dysentery. So far seven of the twenty-three victims have died. There is no legitimate Klingerman Foundation mailing unsolicited gifts. If you receive an oversized blue envelope in the mail marked “A gift from the Klingerman foundation”. DO NOT open it. Place it in a strong plastic bag or container and call the police immediately. The “Gift” is one you definitely do not want to open. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT. > > > Mrs. Sandra Dee McNair-Boyd > > > Social Work Secretary > > > Yale New Haven Hospital > > > Department of Social Work > > > 203-688-2256

To listen to Teddys music fills my soul with feelings that Ive pushed deep deep inside of my heart, and to again have thoughts of love, touching, and a relationship are what his songs have given to my life again and for that I say GOD bless you ! I saw you on the early show, what a SEXY MAN, I love to see you sing, I went out today and bought my first C.D. of youre work, but Im sure there will be more to follow. I lost a son in 94, and music keeps me from getting to lost, MY younger son is 16 and wants to sing, tomorrow know that youre C.D will be playing, and he’ll smile when I tell him, you know Ive fallen in LOVE, I know youre journey has been difficult, as I work with developmentely disabled children, and having lost my own 21 year son to a brain injury, after a fall in 94, I prayed and prayed that he’d someday be able to sit up and get around in a wheel chair, but it was not in GOD’S plan for him or us,I know how hard it is on a family, I believe now that we are all on are own journey the monent that we are born, and we meet people along the way , some as angels, others as mentors, some as friends, and of course some we really dont need to have in our lives but do as a lesson, we dont know each other by name, and you wouldent know me on the street, are hearts and are souls have already met.. for you TEDDY PENDERGRASS are my friend, so when you sing you have touched my soul and made me feel like a beautiful woman.. and for that I say Thank You..

Hello, to say I love the music is an understatement. All the fans simply love Harold Melvin the BLue Notes, and who can forget the GREAT TP. Of course I could say I love TP and the music, but it’s more than that. His voice is Almighty!! There is no one out there or ever will be a Teddy Pendergrass. I feel like I have been reborn again when I hear Teddy’s music or any music of the great music groups from the 70’s and 80’s. TP’s voice is such a beautiful and eloquent singing and speaking voice. THere is a lot of singers out there now that you can hardly understand the words they are saying. I hop the TP knows that people out there still love him.

I have loved T.P. since I lived in Abilene Tx during the ’70’s & 80’s. I am looking for anyone who wants to keep in touch & share any videos, & I’ll pay for any videos & tapes. I really wish there was an offical website for Teddy. We’ve never forgotten him over the years. There must be a newsletter or fan club so I can keep in touch and know how he’s doing. I want to hear from other fans too. I never got to see Teddy i
n concert. Good thing I did’nt get to one of those “Ladies Only” shows! I’m sure I’d have probably been arrested! LOL!! We “angels” will always love you Teddy!! How about some more music for us fans to enjoy? I’m waiting!

Dear Mr. Pendergrass, I must admit, I have not been a devoted fan nor can I name very many of the songs you have sung. I am writing because I saw you on ET this evening and it warmed my heart to see your courage and ambition shine through all of the horrible things going on in this world today. It is so good to know that indeed, anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Often times we take for granted the lives we have been given. Thank you for being you, and thank you for brightening my day.

I HOPE you read some of these Teddy! I realize you cannot read ALL of them but!!! SO MANY of us feel the SAME way about you !! You give so much to us and never “ASK” for a thing back! I have been a fan of yours since the begining! And I WILL be until I draw my last breath! I AM SO glad I found your website. I come here every night to listen to you! Your music is so romantic – and many of the songs reflect on some of the LOVES I have had in my life too. I was divorced two years ago after finding out my husband of 30 years had had a girlfriend for OVER 7 years. Your song “IN MY TIME” really hits home in my heart. I too have a disability – NOT physical – so that you can see it…but IBD {Crohns disease} REALLY does stop ones life in their prime of life. I was 19 when I got it and once you get it – Crohn’s never goes away! I too saw you on Regis….I PRAY that you DO know how much you HELP and actually change our lives by listening to your music AND by hearing your inspirational words…! I ONLY wish I had seen the entire show! I was fired from my job last week because of my disease…! I was so down and UPSET TEDDY!!! Then I remembereed your words of inspiration {Regis show} …and thought I CAN BE JUST like him and have his attitude – OR I can just be miserable the rest of my life OVER all of this! I CHOOSE to do the first choice and I ASPIRE to KEEP the attitude STRONG!!! like you do as life is too short to be miserable! In the 70’s a friend from back home …{I am a DETROIT -MOTOWN gal for 40+ years!! He gave me one of your tapes while I was in the hospital. I played it over and over again…and it gave me such PEACE inside. Unfortunately thru my divorce…my husband KEPT that tape and I have NOT been able to find it on CD or tape. I MISS it SO much! Teddy, Just like everyone else that has signed your book, I too just saw you on the Regis show. You truly are an inspiration to those whose lives you touch. It is wonderful to see a person who has disability have such a wonderful outlook on life. and who knows that yes it would be nice to have a cure for SCI, but what do we do in the mean time? Thank you for appearing on such a popular show and possibly changing the way even just a few people look at how people with disabilites can achieve.

How are Nicolas and Valerie Simpson doing? You guys still hang out? Well, I just stumbled upon this web site while trying to get the only VHS available to the public: Live in London (1982). CBS/Fox Video produced it, but videoflicts.com is informing us that they discontinued production and the only way to get it is through the used VHS market. This is a shame. I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Keep the faith.

Teddy P., I know you have probably heard all the same messages time and time again, but I would like to let you know how much I personally appreciate your great works. Alot of people say that the words you perform make you great, well, I would like to dispute that. I think, I know that it is the true blessing from God that you have one of the most beautiful singing voices that I have ever heard. Granted, the words are quite wonderful, but, without you, they could be nothing. You have inspired in so many ways in my life, and I just wanted a chance to say thank you. If only I could meet you, would my Teddy Pendergrass experience be complete. God Bless and keep you is my prayer. Your biggest fan, Bobbie

I am a 24 year old male who loves TP. I just wanna thank you TP for the music you have given us over the years. Here in SA radio stations still play hits like ” If you don’t know me right now” as if it was released yesterday. We love you music down here. I hope one day you will come and visit here and see how much love we have for you. I just wanna say that “Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes” are one of the best groups I have ever listened to. I always wondered why you left the group. Today I read that you left because you were not happy with Harold’s control of the group. That is so sad to hear. If I can correct history that is one thing I would do. Bring you guys back together. Hope you are working on something. Would love to listen to something new from you this millenium. Yes we are “Trully Blessed” to have you as a musician. Cheers Sifiso

Hi Teddy! I’m 7 years old and my name is Jenny Heyside. My Mum and Dad, Neil and Erica are celebrating their 15th Wedding Anniversary on August 23rd and the first song that they had played at their wedding in 1985 was “This time is ours”. They still play it all the time in the car and my sister Melanie and I know all the words. Sometimes they kiss when this is playing (Yuk!). Could you send them a well done message or get somebody to send one for you to them, to wish them every happiness for the next 15 years..and more. I know they would be so happy and we might even get extra pocket money!! My grandma is helping me send this to you.
Mum and Dad met at school in Liverpool when they were only 8 (but they are 42 & 43 now!!!) and they are the best Mum and Dad in the world. Please please please see if you can help. Loads of love and hugs from Jenny & Mel XXXXXXXXX

I remember watching HBO one evening a long time ago and I saw a Teddy Pendergrass Concert from, I think, Lake Tahoe. That concert Teddy sang a song name Lady that, before that night I had only heard that song performed by Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers. That is still my favorite version of that song. That night I watched one of the concerts I had ever seen. I was wondering is that concert available on video tape? If not that is a CRIME!!! Life Long F A N !!!

Dear Mr. Pendergrass, Where should I begin writing this letter? Ill begin by saying, Hello. My name is Shirley Moore. I live in Rancho Cordova, CA, outside of Sacramento, CA. I pray that the lord is still blessing and keeping you in his grace. Ive just finish reading your book Truly Blessed. I am the one thats been truly blessed. Im honored to have had the opportunity to read your book. It has given me a new look on life, in terms of reading and having the mind to read. Your book has had a profound effect upon my life. Having partied off your music for years, I felt compiled to write you. Before reading your book I really didnt enjoy reading, not at all. Id like to share with you how this wonder took place. We (my husband Earl) and I heard over the radio that Harold Melvins Blue Notes, Dramatics, Chilites and someone else was coming to town Friday, June 20, 2000. Yes, we got some tickets. While picking up the tickets at Tower Records we decided to go into the Tower bookstore next door. I was determined to find something to read; something that would keep my interest. I wanted to read about someone that I kind of knew a little bit about. It had to be about someone that was black. That way I could relate to them. Please, dont get me wrong. I like white people. I have white people as well as other races in my family, and I love them all to death. I just wanted to read about someone that was black. This put a limitation on my selection of books. I looked, I looked and I looked. I was getting tired, so I sat on the floor. There it was on the bottom rack, you were there staring at me. I said, Ooh Ooh. Teddy has a book. Truly, (one of my favorite words as well) this was exciting to me. Id remember having th
e CD TRULY BLESSED, as well as other CDs of yours in our home. I picked it up and begun to read. I couldnt put it down. Id always begin reading a book but never finish it. I had to purchase the book because it was time to go home and time for the store to close. My families noticed that I was on a roll, reading for endless hours. I learned you were from the same hometown as my husband, Earl. That excited me. He was born and raised in Philadelphia. He has family members remaining in Philadelphia, North 60th street. You and Earl have traveled some of the same streets. Earl graduated from West High School with Kenny Gamble in 1961; one of the owners of the record company you once recorded music with. Kenny was married to Dee Dee Sharpe. I got this information from my husband Earl. Lots of the things you would talk about in your book, I would ask Earl about, such as: names of schools, street names the Uptown theater and other things. All of this was exciting and important to me. It was an added bonus to my reading. Isnt it funny how things have a way of working out for ones good. Yes, I finished the book. Thank-you very much. Im rather proud of myself. 40 years old and the second time in life finishing a book. Thats something. The concert was FANTASTIC. The Blue Notes were great. They sang lots of songs that you sang back in the day. They sounded good, but not like you. There is only one Teddy Pendergrass and thats you. You are the best at what you do. Earl and I (my first time) and 14 years old daughter visited Philly last August for vacation and our anniversary to see his dad, stepmother and his mother up in NYC. I LOVED IT. We had to return to Philadelphia this past January for Earls sister funeral service. Under the circumstances I still had a wonderful time, I realized when I returned home to Sacramento, California, that I hadnt left the house but one time, and that was for the funeral services. Philly is the Bomb. Your life story is somewhat like my husbands family. Earls stepmother has had stroke after stroke, after stroke. Today, she is bedridden. She has no concept as to who she is or what is going on in her life. She has been in this condition for over 21 years at home. Earls father is and has been taking extremely good care of Mom for all those years and many more before those strokes began. See again, you are truly blessed. Youre such a remarkably incredible man Mr. Pendergrass. The courage that you possess, makes you one of a kind. Yes, childhood life was hard and sometimes it carries itself into ones adulthood, but throughout your life you have struggled. Pressing on, toward the mark, done the best that you possible could. Youve always come out a winner, sitting pretty in the fathers hand. When you look back you can say it really hasnt been so bad. And in my book that is what its all about, its a wonderful thing; its a miracle. Pressing on, never giving up. There is never nothing that you cant do. You may have to take another route, maybe even a longer route, of getting it done, but Im sure it will get done. Remember that you are Teddy. SMILE. Earl and I, and our children have plans to come home to Philly in August of this year for vacation and our anniversary (again). This time my plans are to go out of the house and see Philadelphia. SMILE. Earls 4 grown children will meet theyre grandparents, for the first time. Thats another long wonderful story. See the LORD is in the blessing business. And we are here to accept them. I am hoping that I will/could have an opportunity to meet with you and Karen. Karen… a wonderful and caring women. There you go again being truly blessed. She has a wonderful spirit within her. She was made for you, and has made you happy. Im glad you recognize that. I know this is asking for much BUT Id like very much if we could meet with you and your family while were in Philadelphia. Please? We dont get to come that way often. This would be a dream come true. Thank-you so much in advance. Thank you so much for your inspiration. The enthusiasm and the joy that youve brought into my life, as well as others. I know that the LORD will continue to bless and keep you. Sincerely yours, Shirley Moore P.S. I would like to let you know that Im currently reading insights on life and love of Barry White Love Unlimited book, all because of you. Again, thank you.

Teddy has been my favorite male vocalist from when he started to sing with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. I first saw him performed in Trinidad and Tobago many years ago and I loved him ever since. He is a God given gift to mankind in the music world and I love every bit of it. My greatest dream is, however, to meet him personally, give him a big hug and let him know I hold a special place in my heart for him. I am a 43 year old female, my middle name is Theodora and I even nicknamed myself Teddy because of him. I love you Teddy and hope to meet you one day. Francesca.

Being a
lead singer, frontman and songwriter, I am completely mesmerized by your superb and superhuman talent Mr. Pendergrass. I am currently in a blues band but I am also trying to market myself (I maybe too old); I plan soon to land a spot on the contest show, “your big break”, and the song I intend to do is “the love I lost” by none other than you, sir. After God almighty, you are one of my lead and front musician and idol. Don’t get me wrong, I am myself when I am out front, and there is only one Teddy Bear, but thru the years I’ve learned a lot from hearing and watching you. Thank you Mr. Pendergrass. May God keep and guide you; oh, if you need any back-up singers or a new artist, let me know. COSTON sends……

Teddy, I just finished reading your book “Truly Blessed” and I am at a loss for words to describe how amazing you are. I started listening to your musci as a child (My dad loved Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes) then as I got into my teens I started listening to your individual music, now at 31 I listen to it all. I thank you for so many beautiful, meaningfull songs that have touched my life on a very personal note. You have given the world so much love and inspiration with your music and I will be forever grateful. May God always bless you and your loved ones and always believe that you are Truly Blessed. Your voice is just amazing, and the words to your songs are truly touching. Where can I get your book, I would love to read it and how can I join your fan club from the UK. Hi there! I’m a big fan of yours. I cannot for the life of me understand why the wonderful music churned out by Philly Records continues to be neglected by so many people. In all honesty, as a Ph.D. student in musicology (I’ll admit, I’m more into “classical” music than any other kind of music, but I did grow up on rock, pop, and R & B), I am not aware of any “popular” music, by anyone, being better than what I’ve heard from you, the Blue Notes, the O’Jays, and MFSB. Of course, I am particularly enthralled by your unbelievable voice. I hear a man expressing himself like no other before or since, backed by the absolute best in production values. I can also understand why the girls must have gone crazy at the sight of you (wish I had even one-hundredth of what you have – any pointers? (not that I really expect you to answer)). I like the sensual songs (maybe I should play them on my next date), but I particularly am touched by the songs which cried out for tolerance and universal brotherhood. You know – “Wake Up Everybody,” and “It All Depends On You.” “To Be Free To Be Who We Are” actually chokes me up, and I’m not an overly sentimental guy. Simply put, Philly Soul (and you in particular) moves me like few other music, in any genre, does. Hopefully, I’ll find a way to incorporate this music in my research. Anyway, best wishes, and thanks for everything. Jonathan Stern

Have been an addict to your music dating back to your stint with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Like all your adoring fans, I was profondly saddened by your accident. But “you can’t keep a good man down”. Among your greatest performances is your interview with Barbara Walters. Years ago, I saw a video concert of one of your performances and have been trying to acquire my personal copy ever since. As a matter of fact my gift to myself would be a collection of all your concert performances. Hello Teddy, I’ve followed your career since the early 70’s when you were performing with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey and the surrounding areas. I’m currently stationed in Germany with the US Army and I didn’t have a chance to attend your book signing; I was hoping since I will be in Mount Holly visiting my parents for a few days that it would be possible for you to personally autograph my copy of Truly Blessed. Teddy, I have all your records and now CD’s but I don’t have your video “Live in London” even though I’ve been trying to locate it for years. Can you tell me where I can purchase your video? Teddy, “Mr. Philadelphia” as I understand you have a birthday in a few weeks and I wish you a very Happy Birthday in advance. Hopefully if all possible since my time is limited that I can receive a speedy reply. Enjoy, Dennis

You face so much more than I and I admire your strength and courage. I have loved you for so long and used to dance to your music which I still listen to today. If it would be possible for you to respond to the above address in care of my friend Angela as I don’t have my own computer, I would deeply appreciate it. In fact, I would be so happy that as Little Richard would say, I would scream like a white lady!!! Laugh. I hope you could fulfill my request. Mr. Pendergrass, I once met you very briefly at the Bryn Mawr hospital a couple of years ago. You probably don’t remember meeting me but it was very memorable to me. You were on the 4th floor where I worked as a PCA(patient care assistant) at the time. I came over to you in the lounge and wished you happy birthday. Seeing as how you were in the hospital on that particular day, I realized yo
u might not want to bothered by some fan, so I took my leave. Nevertheless I will always remember that day fondly. I took my wife to see you with your children’s choir out at the Valley Forge Music Center the summer before, and I wanted to tell just how much both of us enjoyed it. Those kids probably are all going to grow up to be productive members of society because you have shown them alternatives to selling drugs and robbing people. At the end of your 1982 “Live in London” concert you said “…the children…the are our future.” Thanks to the efforts of people like you, you’ve done your part to see that their future is bright, indeed. Happy Birthday,Teddy!

I am a big fan of Mr. Pendergrass. He has been an inspiration to me in alot of ways. I am a nurse that works in a rehabilitaion hospital. I have worked with sprinal cord injuries, hip replacements and various other injuries. When I work with spinal cord injury, I tell them of Teddy Pendergrass. I tell them how God is a big part in his life and his daily recovery. I, myself, have alot of respect for Teddy Pendergrass. I don’t know how often you read these, but here goes. I’m only 25 years old but I seem older. I bought a cd the other day called slow jams of the 70’s and I ran across the song”Turn off the Lights”. Man when I heard this again I fell in love all over again. I have a friend that hasn’t heard it yet and I was trying to doownload it, but I had no luck. I think everyone in love should hear this song. Thanx so much for the music throughout the years.

Last night I had dinner with some friends at “Justins” the NY resturant owned by Puff-Daddy and named after his son. I admit I did not think it would blow me away. Oh but I was I WAS blown away! The food was excellent, the drinks superb, the ambience classy and subdued. The highpoint of the entire evening was the general manager played at least 10 Teddy Pendergrass songs. Now for those of you who understand the wonder of Teddy Pendergrass you can well imagine I had a wonderful evining. Thanks Teddy…..Thanks Puffy.

Teddy, you are the most complete male vocalist to emerge out of the R&B/Soul heritage. You know you are a certified legend when you are often imitated, but never duplicated. When you would sing a song, the more you (begged) for it, the less we had too!!! There will never be another like you! God bless you, and keep up the great music. P.S. To this day, I never ever get tired of hearing you sing “Love, TKO”! Nobody can moan and sing at the same time like the Teddy Bear!

YOU PERFORMED A CONCERT HERE IN CINCINNAT IN AUGUST OF 1978 CHAKA KHAN WAS ON THE SHOW. I THINK YOU CAME ON AFTER MIDNIGHT. WE LEFT RIVER COLISEUM THE SUN WAS COMING UP. WHEN YOU PERFORMED THE SONG “when somebody loves you back” YOU SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE CHURCH ON SUNDAY MORNING. AT THE TIME I LOOKED AT MY GIRLFRIEND AND SHE SAID YES. YOU PREACH A LITTLE THAT NIGHT, BUT YOU ALSO GAVE OUT ROSES THE LADIES. YOU PLAYED THE DRUMS THAT NIGHT. YOU TOYED AROUND SINGING THE SONG BY MCFADDEN & WHITEHEAD “- – – – NO STOPPING US NOW” YOU SAID I SHOULD HAD RECORDED THAT SONG. MR. PENDERG- RASS WOULD PLEASE RECORD A SPIRITUAL C.D. I DIDNOT SAID GOSPEL I SAID SPIRITUAL. YOU TEDDY YOU ARE TRULY BLESSED AND I AM TO. MY MOTTO IS THANK GOD FOR TODAY. TELL YOUR MOTHER HELLO SHE DID A GREAT JOB WITH YOU. I WAS SORRY TO HER ABOUT YOUR FATHER IN THE BOOK. TEDDY PENDERGRASS YOU ARE STILL THE GREAT TALENT I REMEMBER. A SALUTE TO YOU SIR NOBODY DID IT ANY BETTER. THE WHOLE TOWN TALKING ABOUT YOU.

I just wanted to take the time to thank Teddy for the beautiful music over the years. I recently read your biography and was really touched by your writing. I’ve always had great admiration for your music, but now I can say that I have great respect for the man that you are. I just want to wish you the best and hopefully one day I’ll see you perform again. I did see you in ’78 in Louisville, KY when you were touring with the Isley Brothers. This was the first time that I had moved away from home and it sure made me feel great to be at that concert. I will never forget the site of you descending down onto the platform, all dressed in white. Just keep your spirits high and I will keep you in my prayers. May God continue to Bless you and all your loved ones.

Dear Teddy, I just finished reading your book, Truly Blessed. It definately took me all the way back. I am one of those women who screamed and hollered for you over twenty years ago whenever you came to the DC area and when I saw you in the play with Stephanie Mills, I screamed, hollered and cried to see you again. I love you. Always have, you are still the finest chocolate man I’ve ever seen. And nobody has ever taken your place in my heart and mind. I’m so glad you have been moving forward, keeping positive and remain truly blessed.

Dear Mr. Pendergrass: My name is Philip Bennett and I am with Disabled In Action of Metro NY. We are a disability rights organization fighting for, among other things, all the ideas you wrote about at the end of your autobiography. I would deeply appreciate any information you can provide regarding your Education/Occupation Alliance for the Disabled. I am hoping that we can all pool our resources. I invite you to visit our website at: www.DisabledInAction.org. And, on a personal note, I’d like to thank you from the depths of my soul for being a living answer to the Christopher Reeve “heal me now, I’ll get a life later” way of thinking. What a breath of fresh air you are! In solidarity, Philip Bennett.

I was wondering if you could help. I am looking for a song which I believe is sung by Mr. Pendergrass, but do not know the name. The chorus of the song goes like so: “when I look in your eyes, I go crazy, that old feeling inside, something I cannot hide, I still go crazy, when I look in your eyes…..” I’ve searched through the CD’s on the market because I would have believed that the name of the song would have been “I go crazy” or “When I look in your eyes”, but came up empty handed. I was wondering if maybe you could lend a little assistance and/or guidance. Thank you. Very truly yours, Elisabel
